September Newsletter
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness month. It is difficult subject but as a community, we must break the stigma. By talking openly about suicide prevention, we can help those who are at risk to feel comfortable telling someone and getting the help they need.
The message of this month is to inspire hope. It is to share messages to others that they are not alone; they are valued and loved.
Knowing the warning signs and how to get someone help can prevent further lives lost to suicide.
In our Mental Health First Aid classes, we have you say out loud: “Are you thinking about killing yourself?”
At first, it feels quite uncomfortable but with practice, it becomes easier. But this is the first step.
