Addressing Co-Occurring Physical & Mental Health Concerns

We will be joined by guest speaker Bonnie Vermillion, facilitator of Encompass’ Living with Chronic Illness support group.

Bonnie Enyart Vermillion is contracted by Encompass Community Supports to be the regional coordinator for the evidence-based programs of Chronic Disease Self-Management workshops and Matter of Balance.  She is a leader and Master Trainer for both programs.   Bonnie is a Certified Group Exercise Instructor with a specialty of Senior Fitness.  She owns Healthy-Steps, Moving You to Better Health with the Lebed Method, a program to help control lymphedema. Bonnie was previously a Director of Resident Services at a local retirement community where she worked with Assisted Living residents.  She has led support groups for caregivers & persons with dementia and for persons with lymphedema.  She has been a hospice volunteer and a family caregiver. Bonnie holds a BA in Sociology from George Washington University and an Associates in Gerontology from Northern Virginia Community College. 

The presentation will include: 

  • Brief description of Chronic Disease Self-Management Education (CDSME) workshops

  • Why mental health issues can be considered a chronic condition

  • How the CDSME content increases self-efficacy

  • Sample segments of the CDSME program

  • Other programs offered by Encompass Community Supports (formerly Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services) that help Seniors with problems resulting from poor nutrition and/or social isolation
